I am pretty sure I received the original edition of this book as a Christmas present, around when it was first published I had quite a collection of books about dragons in particular, and mythical creatures generally, so it was a sensible gift Looking back, I m not really sure what I thought of the book I think I liked it, but there is also this frustrating feeling of incompleteness to it and I know that I knew there were jokes that I was missing since I wanted to read it as a straight catalog [...]

I do like quirky, cheeky books like these, especially when they are about dragons This is just another addition to my growing collection entertaining but pretty silly I m fond of books that takes the subject of dragons seriously but occasional pursuing through funny compilations like this one the illustrations are definitely pretty interesting The creatures in the Western dragon section were altogether strange and looked like a lab experiment than your stereotypical dragons but overall the boo [...]
I was expecting far better from the producer of the Animalia book.However it is a fairly cheerful tongue in cheek romp through the old fashioned naturalists work and all about different varieties of dragons Sadly the dragons are all ones he made up instead of being about the dragons people have made tales of for generations.Well drawn pictures though make this a not too bad book.
Droll I ve read and enjoyed Base s other books, and am a sucker for descriptions of fictional species, but I was expecting from this one It was written first but only published much later, and I can see why A series of sketches, the tone is uneven, and neither the dragons or their discoverers are developed very much Despite the lovely artwork, it all feels a bit thin.
What s not to love All the fun, drakonian details, and fantastic artwork of Graeme Base s original The Discovery of Dragons only with even dragons If you liked the original, you ll love even of it.
my nephew will love this book he might actually take it seriously it is a fun look into the history of dragons based on region it is an epistolary book much of the humor will be missed by children, but they will enjoy it nonetheless.
As with most Graeme Base books, it is primarily aimed at children, but there is enough humour to keep most adults amused as well And, of course, there is the wonderful artwork a feature of all Graeme Base books This is an update of the original book from 1996, with new material added.
Interesting and well put together Great for younger kids interested in dragons Not a long book as one page is the illustration of the dragon while the other is a letter from the person that discovered the dragon so none of the reading is very long or technical.
This is my favourite dragon picture books Between the text which had me rolling on the floor laughing and the amazing illustrations, it s a must have for any dragon lover
A fun portrayal of various dragon species The humor was a little over the top and felt forced at times, but the book is worth a read, for the gorgeous illustrations if nothing else.
It s a little bit funny, and interesting at the same time.
My favorite part is the beginning as Bjorn the Viking names the European dragons he encounters after his eaten companions.
Has most information correct, however misses a major point about wings being behind the shoulder blades closer to the waist in the pictures.
I love all books by Graeme Base but this oneIt is the best Love the illustrations
