I really enjoy Ludlum s books, but I ve noticed he tends to repeat the same themes in most books The following is a list of things I ve learned about the world by reading Robert Ludlum 1 Everything that happens in the world is linked to either a fringe lunatic who plans to kill three quarters of the world s population so he can rule over the rest like some ancient emperor or someone who wants to improve national security by reinstating the cold war.2 If you retire from a job as an intelligence o [...]
The Lazarus Vendetta is the fifth book in The Covert One Series created by Robert Ludlum and written in conjunction with other authors This is the first of the stories written by Patrick Larkin, and the results while acceptable, are not overtly impressive My main complaint is that the story itself is too far fetched and unbelievable As a result, the reader remains an observer of the action rather than a participant in the action Good stories, I would argue, so envelope the reader that she no lon [...]
Maybe it was just where my head was at when I started this book a few months ago It became one of those books you pick up, read a chapter or two, then set down and forget about for a while In any event, this books turned out to have enough twists and turns to keep me interested to the end but not enough character development to give it much depth I d recommend it for a good diversionary book to occupy time for a few hours by getting lost in the world of super spies and nefarious techno sociopath [...]
Lt Col Jon Smith is once again called into action as a member of the super secret spy agency known as Covert One His cover is his military rank and the fact that he is a medical doctor attached to USAMRIID In the Lazarus Vendetta is there are attacks made on labs that are working on nanotechnology The Lazarus Movement has devised nano that destroy human It is a race to save humanity my Jon and his sometime partners from other agencies Peter M16 and Randi CIA.
2.5 out of 5 Passable thriller from the Ludlum franchise, penned by Patrick Larkin. This book would have probably gotten a three star rating if this were the first Covert One novel that I read, but having read a number of them, I find they all seem to follow the same pattern and are pretty much forgettable In fact, although this is Covert One 5, I only remember fragments of the first one and can t recall much from the others. The character development is almost non existent, as in the other Covert [...]
Robert Ludlum was the master storyteller However, it takes nothing away from Patrick Larkins following story based on Ludlum s original creations I thought it was brilliantly done and thoroughly enjoyable
Another very enjoyable entry in the Covert One series Intelligently written, engrossing and topical, dealing with the emerging science of nanotechnology.
I could not read any I read than half, but seemed like a chore and I did not enjoy it.
Fast paced and exciting as always, but would have been a lot better if it didn t feel like a copy paste job of the previous four books in the series.
The Lazarus Vendetta by Robert Ludlum like his other novels doesn t fail to provide an exciting novel with multiple action scenes and words you ll think are cool, military lingo and will no doubt try to use on your own, only to use them incorrectly The Lazarus Vendetta revolves around a group of eco friendly individuals who think by rioting and boycotting technology, they ll save the environment and make change I m a big fan of Ludlum, but by the fifth Covert One novel, and reading his others, I [...]
A fast pace bio terrorist thriller. Our hero Lt Col Jon Smith was at work one day at the Teller Institute in Santa Fe New Mexico when all hell breaks lose Anti nanotech demonstrators from the Lazarus movement protest outside the institute They are a multinational group bent on stopping this research and saving the planet Their biggest fear is that nanotechnology will destroy the world They are always a problem and largely ignored Enter fake government agents, who make there way inside the Teller [...]
The novel begins in an organization called Lazarus that wants to stop the overgrowth of technology and protect the environment and there are people outside the labs protesting with Lazarus against the Government suddenly an alarm sets off and a nanotechnology weapon breaks loose and kills the protestors Jonathan Smith which was an undercover agent in the organization was not affected with everyone else in there This mysterious event left only one person in the organization we know only as Lazaru [...]
For the past three decades Robert Ludlum s bestselling novels have been enjoyed by hundreds of millions of readers worldwide and have set the standard against which all other thrillers are measured His Covert One series has been among his most beloved creations and now comes the latest thrilling novel in the series The Lazarus Movement, the dominant force in the eco conscious, anti technology protest movement, has sent rumblings down the halls of the world s intelligence agencies Led by a myster [...]
I think this one was the best of the series so far Patrick Larkin stuck true to the characters and I was so glad to see a few of them come back in this story The plot was interesting for sure and I found it hard to turn the book off I was listening to the audio version Mr Larkin was a little graphic than the other authors in this series, but it wasn t too distracting for me I also have to give credit to the narrator who read it with true emotion and character voice accents included Truly impres [...]
Book 10 of 2009This is one of the better Covert One novels I believe There wasn t quite as much going back and forth between widely different settings and circumstances Also, although there was an attempt to kill Jon Smith, it didn t take up a lot of the book as in other installments Jon spent much of the time searching for who was behind the Lazarus Movement s attacks, and not as much time chasing those responsible Once again, Jon teemed up with Randi and Peter to complete his mission The plot [...]
Contrary to the billing on the cover of the book, these books are merely a series created by Robert Ludlum, but written by different authors Books 1 4 were written by Gayle Lynds and this installment has been written by Patrick Larkin.I found this to be the best in the series so far, the writer change has led to a definite improvement in quality Whilst it falls into the realm of bio terrorism techno thriller using emerging fictional nanotechnology it uses this fictional technology in a manner wh [...]
This book grabbed and held my interest with the tenacity of a demon from hell, never once letting go My favorite TV shows went by the wayside as I methodically flipped the pages into the wee hours of the night It s possible to visualize how a threat from nanotechnology in the wrong hands could perhaps occur in the future In this scenario where thousands of people dissolved into globs of flesh bones from infinitely tiny nanophages, the various intelligence agencies were stymied as to how to handl [...]
The extra star is for keeping me sane while traveling through Utah and Nevada, in January, partially after dark I cringed at the first gross out scene but after several dozen splatterings and explodings and blown across the room ings I hardened and was even able to consume lunch while Ludlum sallied on through gunfire and slime and other peril Oh, and another small point it s not really Ludlum The series is created by Ludlum but written by someone else, which is mentioned in small print and whic [...]
An action packed thriller This one hits all the buttons conspiracies, a diabolical world domination plotter, mass murder, fire fights, hand to hand combat, high tech science, low ball politics and I found out this is book 5 in the series but I am happy to say that this book stands on its own and doesn t need you to read the earlier book One of the things I liked was that even though the US and International agencies officially do not work together, the agents and spies in the trenches do not op [...]
This was a long story, unabridge it was 11 CD s Scott Brick read the book and did an excellent job, the only thing was his Peter Howell character voice kept reminding me of Katherine Hepburn ha ha.I have been listening to this since early July as I have been walking to work a couple of mornings a week and it definately kept me entertained and made the 65 minute walk shorter A Covert One agent Lt Col Jon Smith seaches into the mysterious anti technolgy Lazarus foundation and the attacks on resear [...]
The Lazarus Vendetta was exceptional The story was both excellently thought about and excellently constructed, with a good amount of suspense each chapter but with crystal clear revelations as the story progresses No questions shall remain unanswered in the end There are also than enough plot twists to keep you reading on, and once the secrets are revealed you will certainly be surprised at what hit you Ludlum definitely has a knack for giving readers a bucketful of surprises, and The Lazarus V [...]
Would be a better screenplay or graphic novel than a traditional novel Not much character development, relying on the reader s recollection of the different characters s personalities from past novels Much finely described action Somewhat intricate plot is not as convoluted as one that Ludlum himself would have concocted Enough clues were provided to guess the identity of Lazarus far before the end of the novel. In the end, would have preferred to watch this story than read it.
4.5 stars awesome book that was full of action and twists I liked how Ludlum Larkin mentioned the time and place of events occurring it made the novel feel real and as if I could see what was happening in front of me like a movie The identity of Lazarus is something I didn t see coming and was a genuine surprise The first novel I ve read in the covert one series and it definitely won t be the last can t wait to get started with the others
Another adventure of the amazing Dr Jon Smith, super spy super soldier super scientista bit beyond reality, but when aren t theses fun to get lost in these tech thrillersis one deals with nano technology and an internal cabal forcing Dr Smith and Covert One to watch their backs as an environmental movement gets hijacked to become an evil plan to wipe out humanity and replace the void with a new world order I ve seen this meme before, but still an okay read
Another of the Covert One books it was good but took me a long time to get into I liked The Paris Option much better, but perhaps that was due to the earlier appearance of Jon Smith s sidekicks Randi and Peter The trio is so amusing. This book covers the topic of nanotechnology and its uses to cure disease alas the technology is turned and used for mass murder Jon and the gang must find out who is behind it and stop the next attack.
My mother in law passed this book along after she d finished reading it, and it sat on the shelf for a long time before I picked it up to be honest, I wish I hadn t Despite the fast paced plot, I found it unimaginative and formulaic, and not at all compelling or engaging, so I gave up halfway through Life is too short to read books you re not enjoying
I do enjoy the action backed Covert One novels Lt Colonel Jon Smith also a doctor is back along with his friends, Peter Howell from Britain s MI6, and the CIA s Randi Russell They are trying to save the world from some gruesomely deadly and it is pretty gruesome nanobots Again, some pretty frightening stuff, but I keep reading them
I read this book for like a whole month Reading the first four chapters for about 3 weeks I d read and put down and almost gave up on iten as I ploughed through it got interesting and I finished it I hadn t read anything by Larkin so there is nothing to compare it with but it was a true creation of Ludlum with the right amount of suspense and twists
The storyline was entertaining but the characters seem so cliche There wasn t any depth and predictable It just seemed empty I didn t even complete the book Robert Ludlum had good ideas but I think the actual author doesen t even hold a candle to those book that Ludlum actually wrote I think I will stick to books that was written before Ludlum died.
